Visa and Residence Permit

Visa

International students applying to study in China must hold an X1 or X2 visa. The X1 visa is for long-term study (6 months or above) and the X2 visa is for short-term study (less than 6 months).

The applicants should apply for a study visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in the place in your own country by holding the original of your passport, the Notice of Admission of Shandong University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Admission Notice) and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW201 or 202). For detailed visa application information, please contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in your own country.

Residence Permit

1. Residence Permit Application for New Students

(1) International students with an X1 visa are required to complete the registration within the specified date and apply for a residence permit in China within 30 days of entry.

Documents required:

   a. Two 2-inch bare-headed photo

   b. Residence Permit Application Form (prepared by the College of International Exchange)

   c. Valid passport, one photocopy of the following three: pages with all personal information, latest residence permit, and latest entry stamp.

   d. Admission Notice and one photocopy for it

   e. JW 201or 202 Form, and one photocopy for each

   f. Verification Certificate of Physical Examination Records for Validation issued by the Qingdao Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau

   g. Accommodation registration certification

   h. Tuition and insurance fees payment receipts

  i. Graduation Certificate or Completion Certificate, and one photocopy for each

(2) Students with an X2 visa do not apply for the residence permit and can stay in China during the stated period on their visa.

2. Residence Permit Extension for Current Students

Students should bear in mind the period of validity of their residence permit, and go to College of International Exchange for extension at least 20 days prior to its expiration, Documents required:

    a. One 2-inch bare-headed photo

    b. Residence Permit Application Form (prepared by College of International Exchange)

    c. Valid passport, one photocopy of the following three pages with all personal information, latest residence permit, and latest entry stamp. If a student has renewed the passport, he/she shall submit both the old and the new one.

    d. Admission Notice, and one photocopy for it

   e. JW201 or 202 Form, and one photocopy for each

    f. Transcript (prepared by College of International Exchange)

    g. Tuition and insurance fees payment receipts

3. Residence Permit Application for Transfer Students

Transfer students with non-SDUST residence permits must apply for a new one.

Documents required:

     a. One 2-inch bare-headed photo

     b. Residence Permit Application Form (prepared by College of International Exchange)

     c. Valid passport, one photocopy of the following three: pages with all personal information, latest residence permit, and latest entry stamp. If a student has renewed the passport, he/she shall submit both the old and the new one.

     d. Admission Notice, and one photocopy for it

    e. JW201 or 202 Form, and one photocopy for each

     f. Accommodation registration certification

     g. Tuition and insurance fees payment receipts

     h. Original copy of the Transfer Letter

4. Residence Permits Changed to a Stay Visa

Residence permits for dismissed students, suspension of school or students discontinuing their study will be changed to a Stay Visa. It takes 7 workdays for a Stay Visa to be issued. Please arrange the departure time properly.

Documents required:

    a. One 2-inch bare-headed photo

    b. Residence Permit Application Form (prepared by College of International Exchange)

    c. Valid passport, one photocopy of the following three: pages with all personal information, latest residence permit, and latest entry stamp.

    d. Personal Statement

   e. Certificate of Withdrawal or Suspension, or No Flight Certification

. Special Circumstances

1. Visa or Residence Permit Expired During Study

Students need to go to Qingdao Exit and Entry Administration for punishment, and obtain the Punishment Decision. Visa or Residence Permit Extension should be applied within one week after receiving the punishment decision.

Documents required:

    a. One 2-inch bare-headed photo

    b. Residence Permit Application Form (prepared by College of International Exchange)

    c. Valid passport, one photocopy of the following three: pages with all personal information, latest residence permit, and latest entry stamp. If a student has renewed the passport, he/she shall submit both the old and the new one.

    d. Admission Notice, and one photocopy for it

   e. JW201 or 202 Form, and one photocopy for each

    f. Transcript (prepared by College of International Exchange)

    g. the Punishment Decision, and a photocopy of it

2. Visa Expired and Renew It During Study

a. Students need to apply for a new passport from your embassy or consulate in China in advance. As the processing cycle of individual countries is long, please leave enough time for application in advance.

b. Students need to report to the college immediately and handle the new JW201 or 202 form and accommodation registration after receiving the new passport.

c. Students can apply for residence permit or visa. The materials are the same as those required by the students after obtaining the new JW201 or 202 form and residence registration.

3. Passport Lost

a. Students need to report to the local police station or the local police station of your permanent residence with a valid certificate after losing passport, and get the certificate of passport loss.

b. Report the loss of passport to the Exit Entry Administration of Qingdao Public Security Bureau with the certificate issued by the police station;

c. Apply for a new passport at your embassy or consulate in China with the certificate of loss of passport;

d. Students need to report to the college immediately and handle the new JW201 or 202 form and accommodation registration after receiving the new passport.

e. Students can apply for residence permit or visa after obtaining the new JW201 or 202 form and residence registration. The documents are the same as those required by the current students.

Additional Information

1. Residence permit extension will not be dealt with if a student’s passport validity period is less than 6 months. Students should renew their passports or apply for extension when the validity period is around 12 months. New JW202 or JW201 forms and accommodation registration certifications are required for a Residence Permit Extension with renewed passports. New JW202 or JW201 forms are required for a Residence Permit Extension with a passport extension. New JW202 or JW201 forms are required for switching programs. It will take at least two weeks for College of International Exchange to get the new JW202 or JW201 form ready.

2. If international students do not apply for visa or residence permit extension upon its expiration, they will be regarded as illegal residents and receive heavy fines according to Chinese laws. Serious cases will be held in custody or even expelled from China.

Notes:

    a. The Admission Notice and JW 201 or 202 form: New students should submit The Admission Notice and JW 201 or 202 form to the university within one week of entry. Transfer students should submit The Admission Notice and JW 201 or 202 form to the university within one week upon arrival at the university.

    b. Accommodation registration shall be done within 24 hours upon arrival at the university. New students and transfer students should submit their passports to the reception in the dorm building when checking in, and notice with their personal phone number and address.

    c. To get the Health Certification issued by the Qingdao Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, new students should go to the Shandong International Travel Healthcare Center in Qingdao downtown within one week of arrival at the university (two weeks after entry).
